I just recently got a chance to try one of the delicious soups made by Catherine Steinhoff and Kathy Hines of Sea Street Soups! I LOVE soup and this is REALLY GOOD soup! I know we are all thinking that soup season is over and it is for now for Catherine and Kathy, but they will begin making soups again in the fall. I was so excited about this soup that I wanted to tell everyone about it ASAP and then I will remind you at the end of the summer.
This is what I tried…
White Bean Soup with Chorizo and Kale (pictured above) – dried Great Northern beans, salt pork, onions, olive oil, carrots, celery, garlic, dried thyme, red pepper flakes, chicken stock, Spanish chorizo sausage, fresh kale, sea salt and pepper.
“Rich and filling, red pepper flakes and garlic add robust accents! Kale is brimming with antioxidants, such as A, C, and E. This soup tastes good and is really good for you!”
I love this soup..the fresh vegetables are just par boiled so the soup tastes and looks fresh and appetising. I love the stock: they make their own and it is made with Himalayan sea salt so the soup is not overly salty; so good and so good for you. Many of their ingredients come from local farms such as Tendercrop Farm (www.tendercropfarms.com), Marini Farm (www.marinifarm.com) and Utopia Farm. Really, if there is something wrong with you this soup will fix it!
Each week, Kathy and Catherine will offer two soups from September through April. They can be purchased in quart ($10.00) or pint ($5.95) glass jars. Also available is bread from Alexandra’s Bread in Gloucester. You can get a large whole wheat loaf for $4.00 or cobbles (small individual rolls) for $1.00 each. Soups will be ordered via the internet by Monday and delivered to your door or office on Wednesday and should be eaten or frozen within three days. I think this is a great idea and I hope you will try it if you haven’t already. They are working on their website (www.seastreetsoups.com), and it should be up soon.
I will be back with this week’s restaurant…Lauren made it home from Prague and today is Charlie’s seventeenth birthday! What a great reason to go out to dinner!
